Jan Feb March Apr May June- 6 month review. After 6 months I still LOVE these skates. I have retired my Jacksons and will be staying in these. Changed the wheels but that is expected with most skates at this price range- however I never even had to change the trucks because the plastic truck is durable, reactive, light and the toe stops lock in. Thanks Monarch for helping me love being on my skates again!
I joined a fresh meat derby team and wanted reliable beginner skates. Not knowing much about plates, trucks, wheels nor brands, I picked this skate more for looks and a bit of recommendations for what to look for. Ordered the wrong color, but nonetheless whites are cute too. The plate is plastic which I overlooked. Concerned how long they will last. The boot is stiff but comfortable as it is moldable, the longer I wear fits better. The agility and speed are a plus. Went from using a 93a wheel to a 90a. The wheels are grippy and is taking me time to adapt. The trucks are directly on the heel/ball of foot which is great for edges. Since I am learning and yet have to figure out what I like I can not give a reliable opinion. I am giving it a 3 just because the plate is plastic, my poor research, did not return as I used them for 2 hours out of the box, comfortable, fast and agile which hopefully compensates for the plate which I can always change if I can embody derby!
Long time derby player (20 years). My previous skates caused a lot of foot pain and eventually plantar fasciitis. I bought these on a whim as they were on sale and am so glad I did. I’ve transitioned to a coaching role andmissed skating at practice and these have been a godsend. So comfy out the box. I’m telling anyone I can what a comfortable boot this is. Thanks!
I am still figuring that out. I took them out for my first skating in them the other day and the wheels started to shred so I’m replacing the wheels and bearings. I am likely going to change the plate because it’s plastic and I’m concerned that I will break it playing roller to be, but we’ll see how it holds up to practice tonight. I love the boot though.
The CR1 Monarch skates totally surprised me—in the best way. The moment I put them on, they felt comfortable and secure, like they were made for my feet. They’ve got this nice balance of being sturdy without feeling heavy, so skating around feels smooth and effortless.
The ride is super clean. They roll nicely, turn easily, and give you that “okay, one more lap… maybe five more laps” feeling. Whether I’m cruising around for fun or trying to pick up some speed, they keep up perfectly.
And honestly? They look great too. Sleek, modern, and just really cool on your feet. I’ve already gotten compliments.
